Sunlight

The plant grows the best if given indirect yet bright sunlight. Long periods of direct sunlight may scorch the leaves and may lose their variegation. It can be grown in shade to partial shade. However, the plant can survive different light conditions.

Watering

Make a moisture check on the soil. Generally, the plant will only need watering only if the soil is completely dry to touch. However, if such a condition exists that your plant is lengthy and the pot is small, you may have to consider watering the plant regularly. While watering, ensure that you water sufficiently that the water poured starts oozing out through the drainage holes of the pot.

Potting Mix

Money plants are at their best with soil, sand, cow dung powder as their potting mix. In addition, it can be more effective if you add eggshells also. Simply crush and add dry eggshells to the above mixture for better results. Compost, dry cow dung and eggshell crumbs or cocopeat (20%) and cow dung powder(50%) are other combinations you could try for big and healthy leaves.

Common Issues And Solutions

Insects, caterpillars, loss of variegation, yellowing of leaves are some of the common issues with Money Plant/Pothos. Keep watch over the plant always and remove any pests you may find. You may also apply organic pesticides such neem water, soap water or garlic solution to the plant to get rid of the pests. Drying of leaves can be another common issue that you could find with Money Plant/ Pothos. Excess direct sunlight could be the reason for this. To prevent this, you may place the plant to another location where it gets not so bright but filtered sunlight. For loss of variegation, it can be a sign that the plant needs more sunlight. Also, if you find the variegated plant leaf fading in color, bright sunlight could be the reason for this. In such a condition, you will have to move the plant to a shadier place. Yellowing of leaves indicates overwatering. Hence always remember to water the plant after the soil is completely dried off.  Also, check the drainage holes of the pot are not blocked to trap the water inside, resulting in the plant to ‘sit’ in the water.

Propagation

Money Plants/Pothos are quite easier to propagate with simple stem cutting. During stem cutting, make sure to cut just above the node, as you will get another branch. You may collect a number of branches just by cutting the stem the same way. Once you’re ready with a handful of branches out of this, place the stem cuttings in water or potting soil, as you wish. If you are planting it in water, make sure to change the water in the container twice in a week. If planting in soil, place the stem with its root facing the soil.

Pothos and Money Plant

This popular house plant is most commonly seen in temperate regions.  The plant is an inmate in many parts of the Indian subcontinent and a native to Moorea Islands in the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the easiest plants to grow with minimal care. Pointed, heart-shaped leaves variegated with white, yellow or pale green color are its specialities. As an indoor plant, it can grow more than 2m to 20m in height, if given adequate support and care. They are known for its air purifying properties; it has the ability to freshen up indoor air from any chemicals like benzene, xylene, formaldehyde etc.
